If the 300-strong field for this year’s Tassie thought that conditions on the opening day of qualifying made for a difficult day of golf, things got even tougher for the 2nd Round of qualifying as the wind picked up.
Thomas Cummings of Dunscar Golf Club had the best score of the day on the Championship Course with a round of 76, followed by Prestatyn Golf Club’s Arron Williams and Rick Hessing of Golfclub de Koepel who both went round in 77.
Deane Golf Club’s Joe Whittaker led the way on the Buddon Links with 70, one shot ahead of Ellesmere Golf Club’s John Jones on 71, with Colin Montgomery of Craigielaw Golf Club two shots further back on 73.
Over the two qualifying rounds, Thomas Cummings led the way on his own with an impressive total of 144 putting him four shots ahead of Stuart Marriott and Steven Brooks who both finished with a combined total of 148 over the two courses.
Amazingly, there was a further hole-in-one on the Buddon Links Course, to add to the two from day one. Norman Haslam of Stand Golf Club achieved the feat on the 13th hole.

The competition now splits into two sections of 64 players who will compete in match play format for the Craw’s Nest Tassie over the Championship Course and Maulesbank Trophy over the Buddon Links Course.
