Porter wins Ben Hogan Trophy

Carnoustie Golf Club’s Will Porter claimed victory in the Ben Hogan Trophy on Wednesday night.

The Ben Hogan Trophy is based on scores from the first two rounds of qualifying for the Links Championship on the Burnside and Championship courses and a further round on the Championship course once again.

Porter led the field from start to finish – he opened up a seven-shot lead in the first round on the Burnside course with a score of 63, meanwhile Scott Robertson, James Howe and Scott Bricknal all carded 70.

It was a similar story in the second round of qualifying as Porter’s score of 75 on the Championship course increased his lead to nine-shots with a cumulative total of 138, ahead of Craig Adamson on 147 and Scott Robertson on 149.

The 19-year-old carded a 72 on his third and final round to win the competition by an impressive 20-shots from JA Kennedy on 230 (73, 77 and 80) and Craig Adamson on 232 (71, 76 and 85).
