ELIGIBILITY

The Competition shall be open to male amateur golfers who are members of a recognised golf club, who have Amateur Status in accordance with the current Amateur Status Rules of the R&A Rules Limited and who hold a CONGU Exact Handicap of not more than 18.4 or overseas equivalent, at date of entry. An indication of preferred start times may be made but no guarantee is given that this request will be met.

Each competitor may be asked to produce a current CONGU Handicap Certificate, or overseas equivalent.
Penalty for failure to produce verification of current handicap on request – Disqualification.

Any person discovered playing in any practice round or other round during the tournament week who is not an official entrant will be removed from the course and their playing partners will be disqualified from the tournament week and banned from future Tassies. No refund/partial refund will be made to those players.

ENTRIES

a) Entries shall be limited to a number of players deemed appropriate by the Tournament Committee based on the number of light hours available with places allocated on a first come, first served basis. Online entry forms are available via the CGL website and submissions should be made in that way.

b) Blank entries will be filed by the Tournament Committee on behalf of the defending Tassie & Maulesbank Trophy winners and the Club and Links Champions of Carnoustie. The previous 5 years winners (including holders) of Tassie and Maulesbank Trophies will be offered automatic places in the Tassie providing they meet the entry criteria. All reasonable efforts will be made to contact those winners before entry opens.

c) Unsuccessful entrants may be placed on a waiting list which will close at 5pm on the last Wednesday before the tournament.

d) All entries shall be subject to the approval of the Tournament Committee of the CGLMC which reserves the right to refuse an entry without assigning a reason for its decision, which shall be final.

e) 50% refunds will be made to those competitors withdrawing up to close of business on the Wednesday prior to the tournament. No refunds are made beyond that date.Transfer of entry is strictly prohibited and must go through the waiting list process.

CONDITIONS

a) The Competition shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the R&A Rules Limited.

b) The ball the player plays must be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the R&A. Penalty for Breach of Condition – Disqualification.

c) Self drive, single-seat occupancy buggies are permitted for competitors who hold a government issued disabled badge. Competitors who require the use of a self-drive, single-seat occupancy buggy must provide documentation no later than one month prior to the event. Competitors will also have to sign a disclaimer after reading the Carnoustie Golf Links Buggy Policy. Competitors must provide their own buggy for use in the tournament. Otherwise players must walk at all times during a stipulated round. Penalty for Breach of Condition:

Match play – At the conclusion of the hole at which the breach is discovered, the state of the match must be adjusted by deducting one hole for each hole at which a breach occurred. Maximum deduction per round: Two holes.
Stroke play – Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round: Four strokes. In the event of a breach between the play of two holes, the penalty applies to the next hole. Match or stroke play – Use of any unauthorised form of transportation must be discontinued immediately upon discovery that a breach has occurred. Otherwise, the player is disqualified.

d) Qualifying rounds: There will be two stroke play qualifying rounds. Each competitor will play one qualifying round on the Championship Course and one round on the Burnside Course or Buddon Links as decided by the Tournament Committee.

e) Craw’s Nest Tassie: The 64 players returning the lowest aggregate scratch scores will proceed to the match play stage of the Craw’s Nest Tassie to be played over the Championship Course as follows: one round on Wednesday, one round on Thursday, two rounds on Friday and the semi-final and final rounds on Saturday. In the event of a square match players will play sudden death from the first hole. These rounds are weather permitting and may change as decided by the Tournament Convenor/Committee. An automatic draw will be used.

f) The Maulesbank Trophy: The 64 players returning the lowest handicap aggregates, who have not qualified for the Craw’s Nest Tassie, will proceed to the match play stage of the Maulesbank Trophy played over the over the Championship Course/Burnside Course/Buddon Links (as determined by the Tournament Committee) as follows: one round on Wednesday, one round on Thursday, two rounds on Friday and the semi-final and final on Saturday. Full handicap difference will be used with strokes to be taken in accordance with the Handicap Stroke Index. In the event of a square match, the tie will be decided on a hole by hole basis, with the strokes allocated as per the Handicap Stroke Index of the official score card.

g) Ties for the match play places and stroke play awards will be decided by card count back using the back 9 score of both courses added together. If still a tie, the last 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 1) will be used. If still a tie, the prize shall be shared.

h) The Tournament Committee will allocate start times for the qualifying rounds and competitors will be advised in advance of these times via the website. It is the responsibility of the Competitor to ascertain his start time at all times and these will be published on the official notice board.

i) If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, in the absence of circumstances that warrant waiving the penalty of disqualification as provided in Rule 33-7, the penalty for failure to start on time is loss of the first hole to be played in match play or two strokes in stroke play instead of disqualification. Penalty for lateness beyond five minutes is disqualification.

j) For those who don’t qualify for matchplay stages, consolation events will be held on Wednesday and Thursday on a stableford basis. On Friday there will be tee times made available in a ballot. This is likely to only be on one course which won’t be the Championship Course and whilst we will endeavour to meet requests not everyone will get a tee time of their choosing.

CLUBHOUSE COURTESY

The courtesy of the Caledonia and Carnoustie Golf Clubs will be extended to competitors during the week of the Tournaments.

PRACTICE

Competitors will be granted courtesy of both courses on the practice day, subject to availability. To arrange a practice time will form part of the entry process and cannot be arranged prior to payment of entry fee. Instructions on how to book practice times will be available in the Players Information Pack.

TROPHIES & PRIZES

Qualifying Rounds: Vouchers to the value of £70, £50 and £40 will be awarded to the lowest scratch aggregate and the lowest nett aggregate. In addition a further four prizes of £40 will be awarded to the player returning the lowest scratch score on each course and the lowest net score on each course.

Craw’s Nest Tassie / Maulesbank Trophy: The winner of each competition will receive a voucher to the value of £500 and a medal. Further vouchers will be awarded as follows: runners up £300, losing semi-finalists £160, losing quarter-finalists £110.

Consolation Competitions: Non-qualifiers for the match play stages will be eligible to enter a Consolation Competition on the Wednesday after the matchplay games. Non-qualifiers and first round losers will be eligible to enter a further Consolation Competition on Thursday. These competitions will be held on both courses. Draws for these will be made by CGL on the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and it is the responsibility of the player to ascertain his tee times. 1st round matchplay losers in the Tassie will play the Consolation event on the Burnside or Buddon (depending on the course used for that year’s event) on the Thursday. 1st round losers in the Maulesbank Trophy will play on the Championship Course on the Thursday. 2nd round losers in the Maulesbank Trophy will be allocated tee times on the Championship Course on Friday.

Any competitor losing in the match play stages of either the Craw’s Nest Tassie or the Maulesbank Trophy will not be eligible to participate in any of the Consolation Competitions for that day.

Any competitor withdrawing from the match-play stages may have his prize-money withheld as it is expected players will compete until beaten or winning the match-play stages.

PRIZE GIVING

It is expected that prize-winners will attend the Prize Giving Ceremony, which will take place on the Saturday approximately 30 minutes after the close of play.
