Burnside pupils take on the Nestie

Primary Four pupils from Burnside Primary School enjoyed some time on the Nestie course as they participated in a team competition.

This is the second year that children from the school have enjoyed a trip to Carnoustie Golf Links to practice their golf.

A total of 42 pupils attended over the two days and were split into groups of three and four for the team contest.

Teacher and Links member, Fiona Joss, has brought her love of golf to the classroom in recent years, teaching the basics of the game to her pupils.

Talking about golfing with her pupils, Mrs Joss said: “During the first term, I coached the Primary 4 classes with a beginners guide to golf, they have loved it and have really come on leaps and bounds. I work mainly on actually hitting the ball, aiming at a target, and then etiquette, safety and having fun.

“Then it’s over to Rebecca who comes into the school in the winter months and helps more with technique and more advanced skills.

“The Nestie course is a great resource and the children have loved the opportunity to play on a “real golf course”.

“Finally, I would like to thank the Links and to the Pro Shop for their support and also to Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club who have been marvellous in volunteering to walk round with the groups. We had a superb couple of days.”

The children’s time at Carnoustie Golf Links was finished off with presentations of their very own caps and a chance to get their hands on the Claret Jug for a photo.
